Next month my precious friend will be leaving Paris and the European old continent to start a new life with her American boy in San Francisco. We decided to meet in Athens to enjoy all the things we like to do, kind of a last week-end before she flies away.

As planned, and after a 50 min taxi ride from the airport, we met on a Friday night directly at the hotel. We stayed at the Ledra ex.Marriot Hotel which we chose for its location, pool view on the Acropolis and fair price. We woke up the next morning at 9am, got ready and started the day with a fresh orange juice on the rooftop pool to plan the day. The pool was just like on the pictures of trip advisor, not disappointing, not astonishing. Two hours later and already a little more tanned by the greek sunlight we were ready to go to the city.

Impression: Beautiful daylight, warm atmosphere, soothing feeling, full-flavored cuisine. What a nice city ! We had a wonderful time in between the archeological sites, the jewels shopping in Plaka, the roof top bars with amazing view on the Acropolis, the spontaneous visits of churches, the search for the perfect spartiates shoes, the Fredoccino (ice coffee), and visits of museums. If you are looking for a city trip destination with reasonable flight tickets price from Paris and Zurich, Athens will not disappoint you. The food is also very affordable which adds even more flavor to the trip !

Tip: The Lonely planet guide Athens in 4 days was quite helpful to see the most in a long week-end time, we liked most of the suggestions and explanations (sometimes more interesting that the one given on the sites, too much about technical aspects).
